Soloists and Arrangers
Besides the intensive workshop sessions, the LJJO particiates in outstanding stage appearances - both in Germany and abroad - and CD productions with international soloists. Making music with well-known jazz stars is a challenge for the band members and is an important part of their studies.
Amongst others, the LJJO has performed with Randy Brecker, Bob Mintzer, Don Menza, Dusko Gojkovic, Debbie Cameron, Dee Daniels, Barbara Dennerlein, Silvia Droste, Albert Mangelsdorff, Bill Ramsey, Sylvia Vrethammar, Jiggs Whigham, Ack van Rooyen, Marjorie Barnes, Madeline Bell, Claire Martin, Joan Faulkner, Herb Geller , Bobby Shew, John Clayton, Jeff Clayton, Gunter Hampel, Peter Weniger, John Ruocco, Steve Kirby, Joey DeFrancesco, Kazutoki Umezu, Jan Wessels, Bart van Lier, Gustl Maier, Emil Mangelsdorff, Thomas Heberer, Tony Lakatos, Wilson Oliveira, Bobby Burgess, Barbara Leah Meyer, Elke Diepenbeck, Nanni Byl, Alley Scats, Ladies Nyght, Jule Unterspann, Allard Buwalda, Decebal Badila, Russ Spiegel and Beledo.
The Hessian State Youth Jazz Orchestra performs not only standards from mainstream jazz but has also made a speciality of performing titles, which have been exclusively composed or arranged for the orchestra by prominent arrangers from the international jazz scene.
For example, these are the works of top arrangers such as Ray Brown, John Clayton, Bob Florence, Bill Holman, Bob Mintzer, Rob Pronk, Manny Albam, Maria Schneider, Steve Gray, Jerry van Rooyen, Peter Herbolzheimer, Jan Wessels, Lex Jasper and Jörg Achim Keller, which can be heard among others on the CDs
